Doxified SA: home for every dachshund

The purpose was for them to share stories of their dachshunds, ask advice from other daxie parents and stay up to date with all Dachshund goodies sold in SA.

Dachshund lovers across South Africa were brought together in May 2020 with the founding of Doxified SA.

The purpose was for them to share stories of their dachshunds, ask advice from other daxie parents and stay up to date with all Dachshund goodies sold in SA.

The online platform later evolved to facilitate fundraising for less fortunate families for their dachshunds’ medical bills or food.

Over time Doxified evolved to facilitate the rehoming of dachshunds and other breeds into their forever homes.

Founder Yolandi van Heerden’s inspiration for starting the platform was the love and obsession she has for the dachshund breed.

“I wanted to create a platform where other people who feel the same can come together,” she said.

She also wanted to make a significant difference in dachshunds’ lives where she could.

Yolandi explained the main aim of the online platform is for dachshund parents and lovers to share and support each other in a safe and nurturing community, fundraising for food or medical bills and rehoming dachshunds into forever homes.

She said most of their time is devoted to fundraising through the online shop to pay for medical bills, sterilisations and vaccinations, as well as finding homes for dachshunds through networking, home checks, pickups, medical care, foster care and rehabilitation.

Yolandi said she was proud of the milestones they have achieved.

These include hosting two major fun walk fundraising events which raised around R50 000 for over 10 animal welfare NPOs.

Co-hosting of fundraising events for the SA Guide-Dogs Association and Pretoria Dog Rescue also counts among these milestones.

“We support animal welfare NPOs monthly by purchasing goods from their online charity shops and reselling them on ours to raise funds for dachshund medical bills,” she said.

“We have also collaborated with big brand names like Pets Elite to host events for animal welfare fundraising.”

She said she gained a lot of momentum in the first two years and has an amazing group of supporters who are always willing to donate and share.

“We could use more exposure for our online fundraising shop,” she said.
