There is still no trace of the man who shot dead a regular customer in the Coco Bistro Restaurant in Erasmuskloof last week.
“Police are still following up on information and investigations are continuing,” said Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.
Last Tuesday, two men were sitting in the restaurant in Castle Walk Centre when a stranger approached their table around 19:30.
Weilbach said he fired a shot at one of the men at the table and fled the scene. The victim died in the restaurant.
Coco Bistro owner Grahame Gertsche said chaos erupted when customers heard an ear-deafening crash and a banging sound.
His first thought was that this was an armed robbery.
“But as one of our regular and respected customers collapsed at my feet with a bullet hole in his body, I realised that the restaurant was not the target.”
As Gertsche was rushing out, he saw the wounded man moving frantically down the passageway. He said the man was falling over tables and chairs, trying to make his way to the front of the restaurant.
When he reached the entrance, he collapsed at a shocked Gertsche’s feet.
Weilbach said a murder docket had been opened.
