Soshanguve’s twins Gift and Given Chochi will represent South Africa in this year’s African Junior Championship games to be held next month in Egypt.
The pair form part of the South African team that leaves for Alexandria, Egypt on 29 May. The twins joined the Zenzele wrestling club in 2009 at the age of 13. Now, at 19 years old, they have outshone the competition to earn their Junior Protea colours.
Through dedication and many hours of training they qualified to take part in the national trials of the South African Wrestling Federation, where Given won the freestyle 46-50kg division and Gift the Greco-Roman 50-55kg division.
Senior official at Gauteng North Wrestling, Laurika de Villiers, said Nyeleti Consulting (long-time sponsor of the Zenzele) contributed tremendously to the cost of the boys participating in the African Junior Championship.
Gauteng North team manager Marcel de Wit said they had already made preparations to see the twins off at OR Tambo when they jet off for Egypt at 16:00.
Gauteng North wrestlers dominate the South African team, with a number of players coming from the capital city, including siblings JJ and Zuleike Ludick, Xander Coetzee, Shaun le Roux, Luco Meyer, Owen Cilliers, Jacques Ludik, Dylan Marais and Andrew MacGregor, Gift and Given Chochi, Reynardt Louw, Leanco Stans, Gertjie Coetzee, Barco Badenhorst, Shane Burger, Wian Human, SJ Bester and Zumicke Geringer.
