Economist Dawie Roodt is recovering at home after he was discharged from the Pretoria East hospital last Wednesday.
“He’s been at home in bed. He was in a bit of pain last week but he says it’s not that bad any more,” his daughter Danielle (24) said on Monday.
“He saw a specialist on Monday morning to determine if he needs more surgery,” she told Rekord.
Roodt was treated in the intensive care unit last week after he was attacked during a robbery at his home at Luberon security estate about two weeks ago. Four men tied him and his family up.
Roodt found a way to free his hands and tackled one of the robbers armed with a panga. He was hacked in the arm and leg and underwent several operations.
A private reward was offered in a bid to catch the robbers.
Bossies Community Justice, a Nelspruit-based non-profit organisation that assists police with crime investigations, said it would pay up to R50 000 for information leading to the capture and prosecution of the four attackers.
Operations manager JJ Meiring said no one had come forward yet.
“We are offering this reward of up to R50 000 for information that would result in the suspects being caught and brought to book,” said Meiring.
Meiring said anyone with information should call 082-567-5212 or post a message on their Facebook page.
Police spokesperson Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said no arrests had been made by Monday.
“The matter is still under investigation.”
Danielle said her family was doing fine and getting better every day.
“We are just supporting each other and trying to move on.”
