A foetus was discovered in a drain in Zandfontein on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said plumbers working behind the Gauteng Traffic College came across the foetus.
“Hercules police were called to the scene after plumbers who were doing maintenance at the college recovered what looked like a foetus,” he said.
It was lying in a drain between two buildings.
“At this stage the mother is not yet identified, but a case of concealment of birth has been opened at the Hercules police station,” Moloto said.
He urged anyone with information on the matter to call him on 079-694-6694 or the Crime Stop number at 08600-10111 or to sms Crime Line 32211.
