Home affairs fraud trial scheduled
A top Home Affairs official Elisha Matsipa will appear before court in September on charges of fraud.

The fraud trial of a senior home affairs official and a Pakistani national will be held in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in September.
Elisha Matsipa (43) faces charges of corruption after he allegedly assisted a Pakistani national to fraudulently obtain a South African passport, identity document and marriage certificate.
He was arrested on 13 July by the Hawks and was released on R1 000 bail a week later.
Matsipa’s co-accused, Wahdat Hussain (30), was arrested at the OR Tambo International airport by the Hawks. He allegedly paid Matsipa R23 000 for the documents and was denied bail.
Acting head of the Hawks, Major-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, praised the members of the anti-corruption unit for their sterling investigation.
“We have a strong case against the two and this shows that our investigators were on point throughout the process,” he said.
“We also applaud the home affairs officials for taking the brave step to isolate even their own in an effort to root out fraud and corruption from within their ranks.”
