Night vigil held against police killings
A night vigil against police killings will take place at the Johannesburg police station after 55 police officers were killed this year.
A night vigil for police killed this year will be held at the Johannesburg police station on Friday night, Gauteng police said.
Premier David Makura will lead the proceedings to bemoan police killings in the province. Four police officers were killed in Gauteng this month and six in the past two weeks.
The vigil is being organised in partnership with the Gauteng government, Crime Line and the Gauteng community police board.
Premier Makhura will be joined by community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, SA Police Service management and anti-crime activists. Members of the public have been invited to attend and asked to bring candles along.
The national figure of police officers killed this year stands at 55.
