Twenty-seven arrested in Hercules
Police have managed to arrest 27 culprits over the weekend for various crimes committed.
Over the weekend Hercules police arrested over 27 culprits. They were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, theft, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, shoplifting and malicious damage to property.
Hercules spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said other crimes committed were resisting arrest, drinking in public, urinating in public and drunkenness.
“A 28-year-old woman was arrested for possession of drugs in Mountain View on Friday. The sector manager on patrol spotted a suspicious car and pulled it over but the vehicle sped off,” he said.
After a chase, the driver was forced to stop. Police searched the vehicle and found drugs in the woman’s possession.
In the same area two men aged 21 and 34 were arrested for being in possession of nyaope on Saturday. Police sector member who were on stop and search duty, searched the men who were acting suspicious and found drugs on them.
“A 29-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting after he stole a pair of sneakers at a store in Bougainville centre,” Msimango said.
He said in another incident related to road rage, a 23-year-old man was arrested for malicious damage to property.
“The man broke a windscreen of another car after an altercation with the driver. The incident took place in Hermanstad on Saturday.”
Two culprits aged 45 and 49 were arrested after they stole a wallet and went on a shopping spree.
“The suspects stole the wallet at the complainant’s business premises in Kameeldrift West on 1 August. The complainant managed to identify the suspects from a video footage police had obtained,” said Msimango.
He said police and the community will keep working together to fight crime in the area.
