Attempted house robbers caught on camera

A manhunt for two men has been launched after they tried to break into three houses in one morning.

Two attempted robbers were caught on camera in the early hours Friday, inside a resident of Faerie Glen’s yard.

Chairperson of the myFaerie Glen Buurtwag-Neighbourhood Watch, Fanus Johnson, said they received a call at about 02:45 on their radio.

“The call was about two males spotted in a resident’s yard. It is clear they were in the yard a second night in a row,” said Johnson.

“We reacted immediately to the call on the radio and the police and Fidelity Security was called for standby.”

Johnson said they unfortunately managed to get away when the homeowner switched on the outside light.

“We searched for them along Solomon Mahlangu Drive but could not find them,” Johnson said.

About an hour later after the first house robbery attempt, the neighbourhood watch was called again on the radio about two men at a complex near Solomon Mahlangu Drive.

“Again we launched a manhunt for the men but found nothing. A few minutes later there was another attempted house robbery in the same complex,” said Johnson.

He said the window of the house was broken in the process and the resident also called for help in the process.

“An intruder with a brown striped jacket seen on the CCTV footage from the first resident was spotted at the last incident,” he said.

“Search for the men still continues.”

Johnson encourages the public to come forward with information that could help them find the suspects to call 10111 or Sergeant Chris Nel on 082-334-7734. He said the neighbourhood watch can also be contacted at info@myfearieglen.co.za
