NEWSFLASH: Armed robbery at Queens Corner shopping centre

“Three unknown men, one of them armed with a firearm, entered the store as it was about to close.”

The police in Villieria are currently investigating a business robbery that took place in Queenswood on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place just after 13:00 at the PEP store at the Queens Corner shopping Centre, said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

“Three unknown men, one of them armed with a firearm, entered the store as it was about to close,” said Weilbach.

The men threatened the three employees who were inside and ordered them to hand over the money inside the till.

“After handing over the money, the employees were instructed to go into the office at the back of the store. The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money in an unknown vehicle. Nothing else was taken,” said Weilbach.

Meanwhile, Kilnerpark Security (KPS) spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi confirmed that their services had been requested as a result of the robbery.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured. No arrests have been made.

The Mon Ami Trauma Troops, a community-based non-profit organisation, was arranged to provide trauma support to the victims.

Information regarding crime can be given to the police anonymously by phoning 08600-10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211 or by phoning Villieria SAPS at 012-403-8600.

Communities are once again urged to report any suspicious people, vehicles or circumstances to the police immediately by phoning the 10111 emergency-number.

The management of the centre was not immediately available for comment.
