UPDATE: Police still searching for Moot killers

Man was shot multiple times while playing in a soccer match at a public park in the Moot.

Police are searching for two men who shot and killed a man during a soccer match at a Moot public park at the weekend.

The 39-year-old man died after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds at Rietondale Park on Saturday.

Rekord previously reported that eyewitness Jacques Aspeling said the man was playing soccer on one of the fields when he was approached by two men.

“They walked directly to him and they shot him several times,” he said.

“They just kept on shooting.”

Aspeling said there were various sporting activities at the time, including a hockey tournament for children from various schools.

He said nothing was taken from the man and the shooters managed to flee the scene.

The man was declared dead on the scene.

Spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt asked residents to help police with more information.

He said the police was investigating a case of murder.
