Faerie Glen water leak addressed
It is believed that tree roots may have crushed both the water pipe as well as a telecommunications facility, resulting in the water leak.
What appeared to be a small underground leak on the corner of Old Farm Road and Stonewall Lane in Faerie Glen, has transformed into a major nightmare for residents.
Ward councillor Ernst Botha said on Wednesday, an investigation by the water and sanitation department of the Tshwane metro was underway.
It is believed that tree roots may have crushed both the water pipe as well as a telecommunications facility, resulting in the water leaking into the Telkom trunking.
“A resident saw the team looking for the source of the leak and advised them of a potential site to check behind a big tree, between plants. The team found a manhole covered with soil. They could see what appears to be the source of the leak. They are busy digging around the area to find the source of the leak,” said Botha.
The team is currently driving around the city to fetch the necessary materials from various depots to enable them to start with repairs. No estimated time of repair was available.

“The main focus is to do the repairs with minimal disruption to water supply to the surrounding properties.
“A great deal of appreciation goes out to the resident’s vigilance and assistance to the water and sanitation team. This is yet another case that highlights the importance of active citizenry and the symbiotic relationship between residents and the city,” said Botha.
Once the water leak was fixed would the roads department repair the tar road at the affected intersection?
Residents were advised to take caution near the roundabout at Old Farm and Stonewall since the road was badly damaged.
