
The police have opened a case of business robbery and malicious damage to property following an armed robbery at a shopping centre in the east of Pretoria on Wednesday.
“We are searching for about eight armed men following a robbery at a jewellery store in Lynwood Bridge around 11:05,” said police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo.
“It is alleged that the suspects held the employees of the jewellery shop at gunpoint and took an undisclosed amount of jewellery.”

Mosondo said the robbers started to shoot randomly on their way out.
He said five shops and three cars were damaged.
No one was injured in the incident, he said.

“It is reported that the suspects used a white Nissan Almeria and a white Suzuki Swift as getaway cars.”
He said the police were busy with further investigations.
“We are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in apprehending the suspects to please call their nearest police station,” he said.

“Information can also be given anonymously via the MySAPS App.
Lynnwood Bridge mall management confirmed the incident in a statement.
” The assailants fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of goods, firing shots at the centre’s security guards. No injuries nor fatalities were reported,” they said.
They said they were working closely with the police and other relevant officials to pursue the matter.

“We are currently evaluating further security measures,” they said.
“Our priority is the safety and security of our tenants, their employees, tenant assets and most importantly, our shoppers. We have increased our risk mitigation procedures, keeping all key stakeholder well-being at the core of our security and operating protocols.”
