Three traffic cops ‘nabbed for bribery’
The community safety department was expected to issue the three officers with letters of intent to suspend them pending the investigation of their case.
Three Gauteng traffic police officers were arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe last week.
The trio belonged to the provincial traffic police’s special law enforcement unit.
“I welcome the arrest of the three Gauteng special law enforcement unit officers for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe,” Gauteng community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko said.
Her spokesperson Pinkie Numa said further investigations into the facts surrounding the arrest were ongoing.
Numa said it was alleged the officers were arrested by members of the SAPS after receiving information that the three went to a house to demand a bribe.
“The officers are said to have been cornered by the SAPS and arrested as they allegedly went to collect the remainder of the bribe.”
Meanwhile, the community safety department was expected to issue the three officers letters of intent to suspend them pending the investigation of their case.
