Local foundations donate necessities to Centurion schools
The stationery donations were part of the Centurion child protection hotline initiative to reach more children while also celebrating Mandela Day, according to organisers.

A non-profit organisation donated much-needed stationery to various schools around Centurion this past Mandela Day.
Toys for Africa, which heads the Centurion child protection week, together with Jean Crossing handed over the stationery to Laerskool Hennopspark, Libertas Akademie, Lyttelton Primary, Laerskool Doornkloof, Fleur Primary and Laerskool Louis Leipoldt.
The stationery donations were part of the Centurion child protection hotline initiative to reach more children while also celebrating Mandela Day, according to organisers.
The Covid-19 pandemic has put some obvious financial strain on the hotline, but with the help of partners, Jean Crossing, the Mandela Day project afforded it some valuable opportunities to reach more children.
“We are honoured to be part of such an amazing initiative. What a better way to celebrate Mandela Day, than assisting the students in our community,” said Jean Crossing marketing manager Melanie Volschenk.
“Together with the Centurion child protection hotline, we want to remind our children that every child matters. We love getting involved with community initiatives as it gives our centre the opportunity to connect with our customers on a human level and vice versa,” she said.
Each of the six schools received more than 500 stationery items.
The team on Friday did not enter any of the schools or meet with any of the children. Instead, each school sent one representative to their security gate where a quick photo was taken and the sanitised stationery packs handed over.
Sergeant Ntsie of Wierdabrug police and Constable Makaung from Lyttelton police also joined the partners at the schools in their respective areas.
“We cannot help a community without community involvement. We are privileged to have our partners Jean Crossing supporting us to reach more children. Children and education was very important to Madiba, so to celebrate his day in this manner was special,” said Lyttelton Primary principal Danie van Loggerenberg.
