North police warn delivery personnel to be careful
"When they send the location via cellphone, it would be an isolated area different from the address on the order."

Rietgat police have warned couriers and delivery men to be careful while delivering goods in Soshanguve.
“We have recently opened several armed robbery cases and most of them stems from delivery truck robberies,” said police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.
He said people were becoming more techno savvy and opting for online shopping.
While this reduce numbers at shopping malls, it also created a market for criminals to take advantage of.
Criminals would legitimately place orders for products such as cellphones, beauty products and household items.
“When they send the location via cellphone, it would be an isolated area different from the address on the order. Criminals would pounce on these unsuspecting delivery personnel when they arrived at these locations, robbing them of their products. Sometimes they would hijack, kidnap or brutally assault the delivery people.
“We are calling on service providers to opt for informing police prior to deliveries to deploy sector vehicles, ensuring the safety of personnel and the products they are delivering.”
Maluleka urged courier companies to consider having their products collected by customers at designated pick-up points to help curb the scourge.
Station commander Colonel Stephina Nkosi said police have doubled their efforts to work around the clock to catch these perpetrators.
