Four men were arrested for cable theft in Pretoria West, right next to the SAPS K9 Academy in the early hours of Friday morning.

The arrest was made by police and Tshwane metro police at around 01:50 during a combined operation.

“The four men were spotted at an open field behind Kwaggasrand next to the K9 Academy busy digging up a high-velocity electrical cable,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

“They were also in possession of a 30-metre cable that was already dug up estimated to be worth R35 000.”

Vuma said the men were immediately apprehended and detained at the Pretoria West police station on a charge of tampering with essential infrastructure and theft of cable.

All four suspects will appear in court on Monday.
