‘Matric class of 2020, we salute you’

Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool as well as Hoërskool Waterkloof boast with a 100 per cent pass rate.

Despite the new normal that accompanied the global Covid-19 pandemic, the wait for the 2020 matric results is finally over.

The matric class of 2020 made their way through the gates of their schools one last time to officially collect their final results after a tough academic year on Tuesday.

Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool as well as Hoërskool Waterkloof boast with a 100% pass rate.

Hoërskool Garsfontein achieved 746 distinctions and an average of 2.2 distinctions per candidate.

A total of 98% of the learners have university admission.

The average percentage of subjects was 70.1%.

A total of 23 Garsies scored four A-symbols.

Die Hoërskool Menlopark’s Carli Viljoen passed with 10 distinctions and an average of 92.3%.

“Menlo is grateful and proud with you,” said marketing and liaison officer Hannaliza Fechter.

“Congratulations to every Menlo matriculant, staff member and parent.

“It was a year of challenges but you guys did great,” she said.

Menlo had a 100% pass rate and a total of 868 distinctions, which included alpha mathematics.

Ian McDonald of Afrikaanse Hoërskool Seunskool achieved the most distinctions with nine A symbols.

Out of the 277 candidates, 94.9% passed with university admission, scoring 557 A-symbols, of which 122 were A+ (higher than 90%).

Edmund du Plessis, AD Kotzé, Waldo Pienaar, NJ Pretorius, Johann Roode, Christiaan Swanepoel and Adriaan van Wyk got eight distinctions each.

Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool has achieved 100% pass rate over the past 35 years.

A total of 221 pupils achieved 677 distinctions – an average of 3.1 distinctions per learner.

Three learners, Abigail Tollig, Annemie du Plooy and Charné Scholtz each achieved eight distinctions, while 71 learners got an above 80% average.

The group average was 75.3%, with 99.02% passing with an exemption.

For the 31st consecutive year, Hoërskool Waterkloof boasted a 100% pass rate.

Hoërskool Waterkloof’s Karla Reinecke was named South Africa’s top student in physical science as well as alpha mathematics.

Principal Chris de Denysschen saluted the class of 2020.

“The buzz and excitement on the school grounds this morning was out of this world.

“I am so proud of the class of 2020 and I believe and trust that the class of this year will follow on their footsteps,” he said.

“Thank you for giving shape to our motto, ‘Ons Bou in Geloof’.”

A total of 362 candidates all qualified to further their studies with 1 046 distinctions among them achieved.
