Suspected house robber arrested in Centurion

The arrest was thanks to a plan to stop robberies taking place in Die Hoewes area, especially at old age homes.

Lyttelton police believe they have made a major breakthrough regarding a series of house robberies over the past two months after a suspected burglar was arrested earlier this week.

The arrest was thanks to a plan to stop robberies taking place in Die Hoewes area, especially at old age homes, according to Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.

The plan involved police, the local CPF and various security companies.

“A team patrolling the area heard screams of help in one of the complexes on Tuesday around 01:00,” said Miller.

“The officers managed to gain access to the property and found the security reaction officers at the house where an apparent break-in was taking place.

“Due to their excellent teamwork and quick response, a suspect was apprehended; unfortunately, the other suspects were able to make their getaway before the team arrived.”

Miller said the suspect would face charges of attempted housebreaking and possession of burglary implements.

“We are currently following up all leads and information,” he said.

“We hope to make further arrests soon. We will be looking at the possibility of linking the arrested suspect to several of the recent housebreakings and robberies in the area.”
