403 arrested during West Okae Molao operation

This was the sentiment of acting district commissioner Brigadier Thine during a large Okae Molao operation in Pretoria West recently.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 403 suspects on various charges.

“Stay alive, don’t drink and drive. We will be here, we will be at the roadblocks and other operations ensuring that there is police visibility and all those who are not compliant will face the full might of the law,” Thine continued.

The operation took place during the early hours of December 8 on E’skia Mphahlele Drive, Marabastad, and was hosted by the Wonderboompoort and Pretoria Central SAPS.

One shebeen was shut down for operating without a liquor licence. The police visited six establishments without prior warning and 1 233 people as well as 1 004 vehicles were searched, and 58 undocumented persons were taken in by Home Affairs.

Two suspects were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act, and three for possession of drugs and drug dealing.

The Road Traffic Management team issued 51 Aarto fines valued at R34 950, three fines valued at R11 500 were issued by the police and a taxi was impounded for violating the Road Traffic Management Act.

“Operation Okae Molao’s primary objective is the eradication of lawlessness in and around the city centre,” said Central SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

Other disciplines involved in the effort included the TMPD, Gauteng traffic department, correctional services, customs officials and private security companies.

Brigadier Thine urged residents to adhere to the laws and regulations in place and contact authorities immediately should they find themselves in an emergency.

“We will be operating till January. Weekdays, weekends, it doesn’t matter. We want to ensure our residents enjoy a safe festive season,” Thine concluded.
