Eersterust, Villieria police vow to continue fight against GBV
“We need to create peace in our homes and peace in the world. Let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women and children.”
Police in the Moot ended their 16 Days of Activism campaigns by vowing to continue the fight against gender-based violence.
This year has seen an increase in sexual violence in the Moot and police want to raise the awareness of this within the community.
The Eersterust police station commemorated 16 Days of Activism with a candlelit ceremony on Friday.

Station commander Simon Matshwane Theledi, CPF chairperson Derrick Anthony Jacobs and councillor Derby Moses were among the dignitaries who signed a pledge to end violence against women and children in Eersterust.
A 5m-long white cloth was placed on the ground and all those who pledged had to kneel down to sign.
The first to kneel was the Eersterust station commander. This gesture was met with applause from the audience.
All stakeholders in attendance pledged to end GBV in Eersterust.
The Villieria station concluded their 16 Days of Activism with an exhibition at Waverley Plaza on Saturday.
The station worked in partnership with Proshield Security and APA ambulance services to make the exhibition a possibility.
Their display was about drug and alcohol abuse, physical abuse by parents and conflict in the home.
According to Villieria police spokesperson Marinda Austin, comments and reactions from the community were positive and the police later handed out pamphlets about domestic violence, sexual abuse, drug related crimes and children’s rights.
“We need to stand together in our communities for the community,” said Austin.
“We need to create peace in our homes and peace in the world.
“Let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women and children.”
