Metro hosts development engagement in Saulsville

The metro plans to erect 6170 residential units which will accommodate different income groups based on the data collected during a socio-economic survey.

The Department of Human Settlements recently hosted a community engagement on urban development in Saulsville.

The goal of the engagement was to introduce the Saulsville hostels mixed-use precinct urban development framework, a plan the metro says aims to guide hostel development within the area.

“The consultation further sought to assure hostel residents and the neighbouring community that the City values their inputs in developing plans that uplift their living conditions and that the proposed developments align with their aspirations,” said MMC for human settlements, Cllr Kgosietsile Kgosiemang.

The metro plans to erect 6 170 residential units which will accommodate different income groups based on the data collected during a socio-economic survey.

“The City of Tshwane understands its responsibility to facilitate consultation meetings on issues through integrated development planning forums and issue-specific public participation sessions to allow affected parties to participate directly in the planning of the proposed developments,” Kgosiemang continued.

The tenancy options for the residential units include subsidy, bonded, financed linked individual subsidy programme (FLISP), and rental.

The types of housing include full-title, free-standing, semi-detached single units and multi-storey buildings.

The metro also confirmed that amenities such as social and commercial opportunities will be developed to complement the land.

“We also undertake to ensure that qualifying beneficiaries are prioritised in the new development,” Kgosiemang concluded.

The Saulsville hostels mixed-use precinct urban development framework aims to contribute to the urban development of the entire precinct.

An emphasis on being pedestrian-friendly will be placed on the project to make the area a people’s place with transport links to services such as the Saulsville train station.

The second phase of applications for accommodation at another development in Pretoria West closed last weekend.

The Tshwane metro had announced that residents could apply for accommodation in the Marabastad Townlands housing project’s second phase from December 5 to 9.

The 1 200-unit multimillion-rand mixed-use complex is one of several housing projects that the metro has budgeted for in the 2022/23 calendar year, totalling approximately R800-million.
