Nkosi: Future of women’s football is bright

Masandawana Ladies' u.16 girls won the VW Vaya Cup last weekend after being led by Sundowns’ ladies players Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Rhoda Mulaudzi and goalkeeper Andile Dlamini.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies assistant coach Agnes Nkosi says the future of women’s football at Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa is bright after the club’s youth sides won the inaugural VW Vaya Cup tournament.

The club’s u.16 girls and u.13 boys tournaments took place on Saturday, December 10-11 at Wits University.

Both teams secured top honours after showing their supremacy across the group stages and knockout phases.

Nkosi said the future of the club’s women’s football is bright thanks to the quality of young players on display.

“Coach Jerry Tshabalala and I had the privilege of scouting several talented stars who we strongly believe will grab the headlines in a few years,” she said.

She congratulated the young girls’ and boys’ teams for continuing the winning tradition at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Masandawana Ladies players Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Rhoda Mulaudzi and goalkeeper Andile Dlamini coached the team of young girls.

Mulaundzi said to win a trophy as a player means so much but to do it as a coach is simply unbelievable.

“Special thanks to the parents for creating time for their young ones to develop their careers with Mamelodi Sundowns. I also commend the sponsors of this tournament for a job well done as well as the club management.”

She gave credit to her fellow coaches Mgcoyi and Dlamini for their professionalism.

“I salute our teammates who came to cheer us up. Congratulations also to the u.13 boys’ team who played under the name – Lindsay Saker Midrand,” she said.
