Akasia police need help to find ‘kidnapped’ elderly woman

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the investigating detective on 082 335 1278.

Akasia police are investigating a case of kidnapping of Ulrike Koch (80) who went missing on November 30.

Police spokesperson Lindiwe Mabasa said that the case was amended to kidnapping from missing person, after investigators discovered that the missing woman’s bank account had been active since she went missing.

A neighbour told the police that she and Koch went grocery shopping in The Orchards and when they returned, she had walked Koch inside her home before leaving with her own groceries.

Koch’s sister, who lives in Johannesburg, said that when she called her later in the evening she had told her that she was too tired to speak and promised to get back to her the next day.

“The sister called the next day, but there was no answer.”

On December 2, the sister called again and when the phone call didn’t go through she had decided to contact a family friend who stays close by to go check on her.

“The friend alleges that she found the groceries lying around, and Koch was nowhere to be found.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that her cellphone, house keys and bank cards were missing.

Koch had her right eye removed due to cancer and has a large scar on her arm from skin grafting surgery.

Police are urgently trying to find the woman and appeal to anyone with information to contact Detective Sgt Malatji on 082 335 1278.
