Dube police prepare Winterveldt residents for the festive season
Police reminded people that GBV is a punishable criminal offence despite having few cases in their area.
The Dube police moved from praying for divine intervention to end GBV to distributing pamphlets against the scourge in Bushveld road, Matsingelane and Mboneni taxi Rank, Winterveldt this week.
On Monday, the station’s crime prevention unit shared safety tips and about 200 anti-GBV pamphlets with motorists, taxi commuters and pedestrians.
Spokesperson Warrant-Officer Tembi Nowathe said the pamphlets also contained information about criminal offences that people often do not pay attention to such as buying stolen goods.
“Buying stolen goods is a crime and we also shared crime safety tips for the festive season,” she said adding that commuters were happy with the effort of the police stating that they feel safe on the roads.

Police also encouraged people to break the silence on GBV as they launched the 16 Days of Activism against violence against women and children awareness campaign with other stakeholders.
Nowathe reminded people that GBV is a punishable criminal offence.
She said the police were monitoring taverns because most GBV cases took place there.
Police advised social clubs to use electronic fund transfers to divvy up the funds instead of handing out cash.
Tavern owners were advised to adhere to the liquor act as police operations will be ongoing for festive seasons.
“We will also be monitoring the issue of cable theft in the community of Winterveldt,” Nowathe added.
