Silverton police are on a manhunt for two male suspects

Two teenagers injured a security guard in a scuffle.

Silverton police on Friday opened a case of common assault against two male suspects who assaulted a security guard.

Warrant-officer Johan van Dyk, acting communication coordinator, confirmed the incident took place, saying the police were investigating the matter.

“A case of common assault has been opened at the Silverton police station, and police are investigating the incident. We are however still looking for the suspects,” Van Dyk said.

He asked for members of the public who might have information with regards to the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the police.

According to a source known to the Rekord, the two males are, believed to be in their 20s, wanted to forcefully gain entry to a complex without proper documentation.

“The two guys wanted to force their way into the complex. The security guard tried to talk to them but they didn’t listen, and that’s when a scuffle broke out,” said the source.

The incident resulted in the security guard sustaining minor injuries.

In a separate incident, two security guards were shot on Friday evening while performing their duties at the Mamelodi railway line.

According to the police, the security guards were patrolling the area when suspects shot at them.

“Both men are alive. One was shot in both legs and the other one in the arm. Both guards were admitted to Mamelodi day hospital.”

Police are investigating the incident.
