Metro to introduce new payment methods for municipal accounts during strike
Despite the protest action, the metro continues to implement its Credit Control Policy and collect outstanding debts.
With municipal customer care centres closed due to the municipal workers strike, the metro presents new ways for customers to use to settle their accounts.
MMC for Finance Peter Sutton said despite the protest action, the metro will continue to implement its Credit Control Policy and collect outstanding debts.
“This strike action is affecting good residents who want to keep their account in good standing,” Sutton stated.
Residents are therefore reminded of the following payment options that can be used to settle municipal accounts:
– e-Tshwane platform
– Post office
– Electronic Funds Transfer
– Spar
– Pick ‘n Pay
Sutton said the striking municipal workers are advised to go back to work.
“They must stop interfering with government aspects that affect revenue and cash collection.”
Sutton said this past week alone we have seen attempts to close down finance offices, block services to electricity and water outages as well as damaging city property.
“All this aspects affect the revenues and cash collection capabilities of the city. This strike action is in fact worsening our financial situation,” he said.
The strike action is about the city’s exemption application for a zero percent salary in this financial year.
“Therefore it is not helpful that actions of a few employees is centered on attacking the finances of the city,” Sutton said.
He sent his appreciation to municipal employees who are not part of the strike action.
“Those workers are taking an extra mile to see the restoration of the city’s financial health,” he concluded.
