10 hours of water maintenance this Tuesday in east

The water supply network upgrade may cause disruptions in Pretoria Park Ext 41 and surrounds.

Work to refurbish the water supply network in Pretorius Park Ext 41 at the corner of Cliff and Boendoe avenues will be carried out on Tuesday, June 11.

The metro has cautioned that an interruption of water supply may occur in Moreleta Park extensions 63 and 83 and Pretorious Park extensions 36, 35, 34 and 25, even though it will be avoided at all costs.

In a statement, the metro said the work involved scheduled upgrades and pipe connection works on the supply water network.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the planned work would last for 10 hours from 08:00 until 18:00.

He urged residents to make the following water conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.

– Do not fill swimming pools.

– Keep on using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.

– Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.

– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.

– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.

– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.

– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

– Take a short shower rather than a bath.

– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.

– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

The metro urged residents to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets and to install water-saving devices where possible.
