Police find AK-47, ammo in Stinkwater bush

The police found the firearm and live ammunition in a bag on Friday after they swiftly followed up on a tip-off.

Temba police station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau has applauded his crime prevention team for recovering an AK-47 rifle from the bushes in Stinkwater, north of Tshwane.

Communication officer Sergeant Herman Moremi said the police found the firearm and live ammunition in a bag on Friday after they swiftly followed up on a tip-off.

“It was an AK-47 with two magazines and 60 live rounds ammunition,” he said.

“No arrest has been made thus far and the police are investigating the case further to determine how the firearm ended up in our area.

“We are conducting further investigations to determine if the firearm is involved in the commission of a crime.”

Tau said it was scary to realise that these kinds of rifles are already in the area and putting the community in danger.

He urged the community to continue working with the police by giving them any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.
