8-hour water interruption in Menlo Park on Thursday

The metro has urged residents to prepare for an outage in Menlo Park while essential infrastructure upgrades take place.

Menlo Park residents are advised to store enough water for household use as the Tshwane metro will carry out essential infrastructure work on Thursday, September 11.

According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, a 50mm and 80mm water meter will be installed at Stands 613 and 990 in the area.

He said the work is expected to last for eight hours, from 08:00 until 16:00, and will result in a water supply interruption during this period.

Mashigo apologised for the inconvenience that may arise.

“The metro profusely apologises to residents for the disruption and thanks them for their patience while this important work is completed,” he said.

He urged residents to implement water-saving measures not only during the outage but as part of their everyday lifestyle.

Mashigo advised locals to make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.

– Do not fill swimming pools.

– Residents are urged to keep on using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.

“Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted. Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.”

Report water-related issues to the following numbers:
– No water supply, burst pipes, leaking meters or blocked sewers: 012 358 9999 / 080 1111 556
– Illegal water connections: 012 358 9060
– Non-payment: 012 345 8514
– Account enquiries: 012 358 9999.

Mashigo said people’s co-operation in conserving water remains vital.

“We urge everyone to report leaks and incidents of water wastage immediately.

“Saving water is not only essential during planned outages but must become a permanent part of our daily lives,” he said.
