Rand Water to carry out bulk meter upgrades affecting several Tshwane suburbs
Water supply in multiple areas, including Mooikloof, Erasmia, Valhalla and Pretoria West, will be temporarily interrupted next month as Rand Water replaces ageing bulk meters feeding major Tshwane reservoirs.
Multiple areas across Pretoria will experience water supply interruptions during November as Rand Water undertakes the planned replacement of bulk water meters supplying several key city reservoirs.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo announced that Rand Water will carry out maintenance work over several days during the month.
Each replacement is expected to take about 14 hours to complete and will affect different reservoirs and surrounding suburbs on scheduled dates.
Mashigo said the water utility will begin by replacing bulk water meters supplying the Mooikloof Reservoir from 18:00 on November 4 until 08:00 on November 5.
Areas that will be affected include: Faerie Glen and Garsfontein (all extensions); Garstfontein 374-JR; Mooikloof; Moreletapark Ext 9, 63 and 83; Prairie Giants Ext 3; Pretorius Park (all extensions); Rietfontein 375-JR; The Wilds; Tweefontein 372-JR; Valley Farm 379-JR; Valley Farm Agricultural Holdings; and Zwavelpoort 373-JR.
Work will then move to the Erasmia and Valhalla reservoirs from 18:00 on November 6 until 08:00 on November 7.
The Erasmia Reservoir supplies Christoburg; Erasmia and its extensions 3, 5, and 6; Erasmia 350-JR; Hoekplaats 384-JR; Lekkerhoekie 411-JR and 450-JR; Mooiplaats 355-JR; and Sunderland Ridge Ext 25.
The Valhalla Reservoir services Glen Lauriston and its extensions 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7; Monrick Agricultural Holdings; Pretoria Town and Townlands 351-JR; Valhalla; and Zwartkop 356-JR.
Mashigo said that further replacements will be conducted at the Heights HL and Heights LL Reservoirs, which supply Pretoria West and surrounding areas, from 18:00 on November 11 until 08:00 on November 12.
Areas affected by the Heights HL work include Broekscheur 318-JR; Claremont; Danville Ext 5; Groenkloof 358-JR; Pretoria Town and Townlands 351-JR; Pretoria West (all suburbs); Pretoria Ext 2, 3 and 6; Salvokop Ext 3; Skinner Court 254-JR; and Van Zylslaagte 755-JR.
The same period will also affect the Heights LL Reservoir, which supplies water to the Iscor, Hercules East, and West Reservoirs.
This work will impact Groenkloof 358-JR, Pretoria Town and Townlands 351-JR, and Pretoria West and its surrounding suburbs.
Mashigo said the city is aware that the upgrades may cause temporary inconvenience for residents and that some areas not listed could also be affected.
“The City of Tshwane sincerely apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result,” he said.
He further cautioned residents that, according to Council regulations, the city will not accept responsibility for any damage to household appliances resulting from either planned or unplanned service interruptions.
He appealed to residents to use water sparingly throughout the maintenance period.
“Residents are urged to conserve water by avoiding watering gardens, washing cars, cleaning driveways or pavements with hosepipes, or filling swimming pools.”
Mashigo also advised that toilets should be flushed only when necessary, running taps should be closed while brushing teeth, and daily water usage should be reduced as much as possible.
“The city appeals to all residents to use water sparingly during this period,” he added.
