Sport highlights, 3 to 5 July
Although the local rugby season is currently in an in-between phase, there is still rugby action and several other sports action for sport lovers to look forward to this weekend.
The cold and the school holidays have an impact on sports activities, but there is still lots of action in local and international sport.
Rugby
SuperRugby: On Saturday at 09:35 (SA time) the Hurricanes and the Highlanders will run out at Westpac Stadium in Wellington for this years SuperRugby final.
While South Africans have no direct interest in this game, many local rugby supporters will follow the match.
Enrista Cup: The Ensista Cup tournament began on Monday with the first round matches and on Wednesday the candidates for Saturday’s final were determined.
In this tournament the best schools talent among matric boys in Pretoria, who are not included in one of the Bulls’ representative teams, are in action. On Saturday the action in this tournament will start at 10:00. The cup final will kick-off at 13:00.
Tennis
For those who prefer to stay on the couch in the cold there is the action in this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament, which enters the fourth round this weekend.
South Africa’s Kevin Anderson survived the first round and his fans will be hoping that he might make his major breakthrough at Wimbledon this weekend, especially after his good performances in the last month.
Athletics
The World University Games will take place from 3 to 14 July in Gwangju City, South Korea. Several local athletes will be in action at the games.
Cricket
Next Wednesday, the first test in the Ashes series between England and Australia will start at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
