A man entered a tavern in Ext 7 recently and attacked the patrons with a panga.
According to the owner, the man was rowdy and he ordered him to leave.
The man returned with the weapon and hit one of the customers, who was outside, on the head.
He then tried going inside the tavern, the door was slightly closed and he hit the glass on the door with the panga.
“I threw a tin at him, which distracted him and another customer held him and we took the panga away from him,” the owner said.
The patrons then attacked him, the man was badly beaten and they had to call the ambulance.
The attacker and his victim were taken to the Standerton Hospital.
The police were not called and the tavern owner opened a case of common assault last Monday.
Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, Communication Officer of Sakhile Police, advised tavern owners not to only call the ambulance when someone is injured on their property, but also to contact the police immediately.
“People should not take the law into their own hands,” Lt Nhlabathi said.
