Police do drug search at schools
Police thank staff and principal for their cooperation.
EVANDER – The police began their Social Crime Prevention Initiative on Monday, 24 February at Osizweni High School.
The aim of the initiative is to curb drug dealings in schools and the police will be doing random searches for drugs at schools.
“We would like to thank the principal and staff of the school for their cooperation in fighting crime at schools.
“We ask the Department of Education to work with us in this initiative and to deal with principals who do not want us at their schools,” Capt Sibusiso Mbuli, communications office for the police, said.
According to Const Mbuli this initiative followed the alleged rape of a 16-year-old pupil from another local school and that the pupils were apparently smoking dagga at the time.
The Ridge Times contacted the principal of the school and he confirmed that the rape did not happen during school hours and also not on the school premises.
A case has been opened and the police are investigating.
