Ermelo youngsters in SA Chess championships
Four primary school chess players from Ermelo were included in the Mpumalanga Junior Chess team that participated in the SA Chess Championships held inKimberley from 3 to 10 January.

Four primary school chess players from Ermelo were included in the Mpumalanga Junior Chess team that participated in the SA Chess Championships held inKimberley from 3 to 10 January.
The four, Jan-Maarten van Schalkwyk, Otto van Schalkwyk, Atharv Agre and Shraddha Agre participated in their respective age-group categories as well as wildcards in different age categories.
Otto and Atharv participated in U/ 8 boys, Jan in U/ 10 boys and Shraddha in U/14 girls age groups.
Otto won five out of seven games and was ranked third in his age group, while Shraddha won four-and-a-half out of her seven games and was ranked fourth in her age group.
Both have been selected to participate in SAJCC closed championship that will take place in April and will be competing with top talents in the country for SA colours.
Jan-Maarten and Otto are learners of JJ Van der Merwe and Shraddha and Atharv are learners of English Primary.
