SECUNDA – Sasol held its 20th annual Grade 12 Merit Award Ceremony on Friday, 16 January at Graceland to recognise and reward pupils from the Govan Mbeki Municipality in Mpumalanga who have passed their final matric year examinations with three or more distictions last year.
A total of 64 pupils were awarded Sasol Grade 12 Award certificates and also received cash prizes for their outstanding results.
Teachers were acknowledged for their contribution to the advancement of education, particularly in maths and science.
“Sasol has awarded nearly 1 468 bursaries to aspiring pupils in Secunda over the past 10 years,” said Ms Maureen Mboshane, vice Ppesident of Public and Regulatory Affairs, Secunda, Chemical Operations.
Sasol recognised 15 pupils from Quintile and sponsored educational programmes for the best achievement in mathematics and physical science.
Each pupil received R15 000 to use towards their registration fees at a tertiary institution of their choice.
The Sasol annual Grade 12 Merit Award ceremony is an initiative in support of the objectives of Government’s National Development Plan (NDP) which uplift communities.
