Violence continues in Mandela Section

One foreigner dies, many injured.

eMBALENHLE – A Basotho foreign national was allegedly beaten to death and four others sustained severe injuries after they were beaten and assaulted by Mandela Section residents on Wednesday, 28 January.

The injured were taken to the Evander Hospital.

The police were patrolling the area during the day, but residents mobilised themselves into various areas of the section.

The fight continued into the night and about three shacks were burnt down.

Residents claim the foreigners are raping women and girls and are responsible for crime in the area.

During a meeting between residents and the police on 20 January, residents said they will ensure that there is “not even one Basotho foreigner left in the area”.

The police have not yet commented.
