What to do when the lights go out

Here’s a list of things to do until the power comes back on.

Here’s a list of fun things to do until the power comes back on.

• Play hide and seek and take advantage of the darkness with lots of yelling.

• Play board games, light a couple of candles and get out the monopoly set.

• Read a book because many great thinkers and leaders studied under lamp posts and by candle light.

• Respond to your sms or whatsapp messages until your battery dies.

• Annoy your friends by forwarding “if you don’t forward this now” emails / messages.

• Knock on your neighbour’s door and have some cold coffee.

• Call someone.

• Experiment with photography in the dark.

• Use all the warm water left in the geyser and take a long bubble bath.

• Practise boiling water with your mind.

• Paperwork by candlelight.

• Meditate.

• Curse yourself for not having bought a generator / solar power unit by now.

• If you still have battery power left, call that family member you have not spoken to in years.

• Look at yourself in the mirror and practise saying hello in different accents.

• Throw 20 marbles on the floor.

• Now go look for the marbles and don’t give up.

• Have an impromptu braai and invite the neighbours.

• Sit outside and look at the stars.
