Early morning mayhem

An accident involving two taxis and a bakkie on the corner of Charl Cilliers and Mbonani Mayisela Street occurred moments ago.

An accident involving two taxis and a bakkie at the intersection of Charl Cilliers and Mbonani Mayisela Street occurred moments ago.

Onlookers surrounded the scene as security services went to work.

According to Mr John Kock, Chief Fire and Disaster Management Officer, details of the accident are unclear, but they are conducting an investigation.

Numerous passengers sustained injuries and were transported to the Standerton Hospital.

UPDATE: 13:25

According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, spokesman of the Standerton Police, the driver of the red taxi skipped the robot and the taxi then collided with the other two vehicles.

“Altogether 12 occupants of the white taxi were injured as well as the driver of the bakkie,” Lt Nhlabathi said.

“The driver of the red taxi fled the accident scene and is still at large,“ he concluded.
