Municipality prunes overgrown trees

The Lekwa Municipality has not only begun to fix the state of the roads the past few months, but the trees in town are also getting pruned.

Boekenhout Street in Kosmospark was the starting point.

Trees have been so overgrown that motorists have had a difficult time because traffic signs were blocked by the branches.

According to residents it is not only the trees blocking visibility, but the grass is so long when you turn into the Ermelo Road that you have to drive into the middle of the road to see if the coast is clear.

Some residents were up in arms that the cut-off branches were not removed the same day.

Although some had to remove branches from their driveways, the municipality removed them the following day.

“We have begun pruning all the trees in town,” Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, said.

“We began in Kosmospark and will be doing the CBD, Meyerville and Azalea.”

According to Mr Mkwanazi it is an ongoing process and he does not know how long it will take to complete.
