Police disperse protesters with hail of rubber bullets
The Thuthukani residents want Eskom and New Denmark Colliery to give back to the community.
Angry unemployed Thuthukani residents took to the streets on 23 March.
They said that Eskom does not give back to their community.
They also claimed that Eskom does not hire local people, but only migrant workers.
“Some of them live within this community,” a resident said.
Residents barricaded roads with burning tyres.
Police used rubber bullets to disperse the protesters and also patrolled the area with police vehicles.
