Treatment Action Campaign addresses shortage of medicine

Members of the Treatment Action Campaign (Tac) visited the Sakhile Clinic on 24 April to address the shortage of medicine.

According to them the clinic is one of the health facilities in the province with a shortage.

Mpumalanga has been having difficulties with supplying sufficient medicine to patients.

As a result some were turned away without receiving any medication.

According to Mr Sibusiso Masiteng, Tac provincial chairman, most health facilities do not have essential medicine, including antiretroviral drugs (ARVs).

He said this is not the only problem, but patients have also raised concerns about the time they spend in waiting areas.

According to them they wait long hours for a consultation and to get the prescribed medicine.

“I had to wait for about four hours to get medicine from the Standerton Hospital,” a patient said.

Mr Masiteng said the patients also complain about the attitude of the staff.
