Gert Sibande Region records the highest fatalities in Mpumalanga
The Gert Sibande Region recorded 11 road fatalities between 3 and 6 July in three separate crashes.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe, has condemned the ongoing negligence and recklessness by drivers that continue to cause deaths on the provincial roads.
This comes after Gert Sibande Region recorded 11 road fatalities between 3 and 6 July in three separate crashes.
A driver of a Toyota Avanza, that was travelling towards Volkrust from Perdekop on the R23 Road, lost control and overturned near the River Bridge Farm on 5 July at about 3pm.
Four people were killed, including the driver, and one passenger sustained serious injuries and another slight injuries.
Mr Shongwe sent condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
He said that traffic officers must be alert and always maintain visibility while dealing with lawbreakers.
“As much as we try to improve our law enforcement operations and road safety to prevent road crashes and lawlessness, road users must remain key in ensuring road safety by practicing caution and obeying road rules at all times,” Mr Shongwe also said.
