Awful stench concerns Ext 32 residents

He fears for his children's health and safety

Residents of Ext 32 have once again had to endure the stench of bloody water that flows into their yards.

They are complaining about the water which is visibly polluted with blood which they say is coming from the nearby abattoir.

One resident informed the newspaper that he fears for his children’s health and safety, as a result he keeps his children grounded in the house.

The newspaper previously reported on the matter in its publication (dated 25 October 2013) where residents complained about the unbearable smell and the health hazards the situation poses.

Previous investigations on the matter found that the bloody water flowing into people’s houses was as a result of blocked drains which the municipal technical department unblocked.

Municipal officials also urged the community not to dump foreign objects into the sewer lines and manholes. The newspaper was also taken through the abattoirs drainage system from when they slaughter to the disposing of the blood.

At the time Mr Nil Rust from the abattoir maintained it was not blood that caused the stench.
A Health and Environ-mental officer had also informed the newspaper that this situation increases vulnerability to respiratory diseases.

When the newspaper visited the area on Monday, a team from the municipal technical department had already diffused the overflow and were already treating the smell.

At the time of going to print, the Provincial Health and Environmental office was already compiling a report on how to deal with the matter and was unable to comment.
