Emergency units create awareness
Mr Hammond said simulation was aimed at bringing awareness to the society.
LEANDRA – Mavcorp Tactical Response Unit and state emergency departments conducted an emergency simulation at Laerskool Leandra.
The managing director of the unit, Mr Maverick Hammond, said on 28 April people should understand the functions of every department that leads to a successful outcome.
“People are also forgetting how important paramedics and fire departments are.
“Their availability and the way they respond to an incident, determine how well you are after an incident,” said Mr Hammond, who also mentioned that they are planning to take the simulation to other schools in the municipal area.
They also aim at reaching the public.
The simulation involved car accidents, robberies and the importance of the K9 Unit.
Substance abuse and the after effects of overtaking on a barrier line, were also discussed.
A pupil said of a shooting simulation between robbers and the police: “It was real action and looked like a Chuck Norris movie.”
W/O Albie Alberts of the Secunda K9 Unit, demonstrated how dogs help them during investigations.
Firefighters also demonstrated how they rescue people who are trapped inside a vehicle after an accident.
