The police received information about people who were planning to commit a crime in Ext 18.
Capt Magonseni Nkosi, the police spokesman, said they found the firearm and live ammunition on top of a washing basket.
The serial number of the firearm was filed off.
“Outside was a vehicle with a Free State registration number.
“Police circulated the registration number and it was established that the vehicle was stolen in the Free State this month.
“When the arrested man was interviewed, he said the vehicle and the firearm were left by a friend for him to look after.”
The man will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court.
Police are still investigating and hope to make other arrests soon.
