Members from the Economic Freedom Fighters said Govan Mbeki Municipality must stop using the police to have members arrested when they invade land.
The party held a peaceful march to voice their concerns over poor municipal service delivery on Wednesday, 24 May.
Mr Thulani Makhanyi, EFF chairman of Ward 26, said the EFF is concerned over the regular electricity problems in the area.
“The municipality switches the electricity on and off without any notices.
“They must consider taking the electricity back to Eskom as it is clear they cannot deliver proper services to the people.
“If residents pay Eskom directly, we will benefit in terms of the social labour plan.”
Water interruptions
Mr Makhanyi said there are regular water interruption cuts without notice.
Some areas such as Peace Village, Afghanistan and Chris Hani do not have water.
RDP houses
He said Council must prioritise the poor, the elderly and the disadvantaged when they allocate RDP houses.
“Some RDP house owners do not have title deeds.
“Another problem is the inaccurate billing system.
“Residents are paying for services they do not get.
“This must be fixed.”
The party gave the municipality seven days to react to their memorandum.
The memorandum was received by Mr MJ Mtsweni, Ward 15 councillor, who apologised on behalf of the mayor, Ms Florah Maboa-Boltman, who had other commitments.
He thanked the party for marching peacefully and said Council will respond soon.
