An old water pipe ruptured at the intersection of Schwickard and Caledon Streets on 25 May and the Lekwa Municipality took immediate action.
According to Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, communications manager of the municipality, the stop-end-plug came off the saddle while the contractor was pressurising the pipe.
The valve was immediately closed after he noticed the water flow.
The pipe was not replaced, but the stop-end-plug was.
A few community members were affected and notices circulated to inform the residents.
“It took four hours to fix the plug because of the raising pressure of the main,” Ms Mtshiselwa said.
