Residents say service delivery is not part of Govan Mbeki Municipal mayor’s vocabulary

“Incompetent politicians appoint incompetent administrators, and the incompetent administrators appoint incompetent contractors.”

eMbalenhle residents criticised the executive mayor, Ms Florah Maboa-Boltman, of not doing enough to improve service delivery.

According to them, service delivery has deteriorated since the new administration has come into power.

The sewer crisis, electricity problems, poor waste collection and bad roads are on top of their list of grievances.

Locals said nearly every section in eMbalenhle has sewage overflowing or has blocked drained.

“Mandela Section and Welas residents are living in bad conditions because of the sewage.

“The stench is unbearable and poses a health hazard.

“Faulty sewers have always been a problem and every year there is a budget to solve it, but the problem still exists.

“We cannot have the same problems for more than a decade.

Incompetency

“This is a sign of incompetency.

“Incompetent politicians appoint incompetent administrators, and the incompetent administrators appoint incompetent contractors.

“Their vision to become a model city of excellency is far fetched,” said a concerned resident.

Residents said eMbalenhle is in ruins and that street lights are not working and cables are hanging low.

Nearly all the roads are impassable and are not fixed.

“What does the mayor say about all these problems?

“Service delivery is not part of her vocabulary, because the only thing she speaks about is her useless initiative Kodiko.

“We want to see action.

“We are poor and are becoming poorer by the day.

“What are the projects that she has in line to fix these problems?

“The mayor must come out of her office to talk with the people who voted for her.”

The houses and stand allocations remain a problem which leads to victimisation and people are done in by opportunists who sell RDP houses and encourage them to invade land illegally.

Ms Maboa-Boltman did not comment.
