Bethal Police are pleased that the community is now realising that police need their support to fight crime.
Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman, said the police and the community have revived various structures, such as the Community Policing Forum, Business Against Crime and sector patrols with the neighbourhoods and informers.
The community is now taking the initiative to assist the police during patrols in and around Bethal, including the surrounding farms, to prevent crime and to protect the community and their property.
Lt Col Petrus Nzima, station commander, said: “Since the community has taken hands with the police, crime in the area has dropped.
“On behalf of the station management team, as well as members of the station, I would like to pass words of gratitude to the community for the support they are giving us in the fight against crime.
“Without them we cannot win this battle.”
The police encouraged people to join the forums and to report any form of crime to the police at 017 647 9929/30 or 112 from a cell phone and request to be tranferred to Bethal SAPS by the operator.
